The nationally recognized Cincinnati Nature Center has been educating and enchanting the public since 1967. When the nature center first opened, it consisted of 175 acres of forests and wooded trails. As time passed on, the Nature Center continued to buy and receive parcels of land. The most recent purchase, made in 2004, was for 235 acres next to the Center’s beloved Rowe Woods. With this purchase, the Nature Center was able to expand their extensive trail system. They also acquired the Groesbeck Estate which is now home to the Center for Conservation.
The massive stone building which houses the Center for Conservation imitates the design of an English manor country home. It features native landscaping by the famous English garden designer Gertrude Jekyll. The Groesbeck Estate is one of three gardens in the United States that feature her design. In an attempt to bring the home back to its original grandeur, it recently underwent a substantial renovation project in 2017. This restoration modernized the property while upholding the original integrity of the historical structure and grounds.
Today, the Center for Conservation doubles as an event venue. With beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces, it is perfect for meetings, dinners, wedding ceremonies, and receptions. There is a front terrace, indoor rooms, and an expansive deck. A large tent can be set up to cover most of the outdoor deck, and it can accommodate 120 seated guests.
